Soprano
Kathleen Weber is an accomplished vocalist who graces opera, oratorio and recital
literature with rare musicality. A native of Kansas, Miss Weber has performed
in oratorio extensively in the MidWest, including appearance with the Madison
Civic Chorus, the Austin Texas Lutheran Chorale, and the NorthEast Youth Symphony.
Her repertoire encompasses all of the lyric soprano literature, including Mozart’s
Grosse Messe in c minor, Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem, Haydn’s Creation, Tippett’s
A Child of Our Times, La Montaine’s Songs of the Rose of Sharon, and Argento’s
Six Elizabethan Songs.
In opera, Kathleen Weber has performed a variety of roles including Suor Angelica
in Suor Angelica, Cio-Cio San in Madama Butterfly, Miss Wordsworth in Albert Herring,
and Annina in The Saint of Bleecker Street, with such companies as the Wichita
State University Opera Theatre, University of Texas Opera Theatre, and a special
cast assembled for the opening of the Century II Civic Center in Wichita, Kansas.
Dr. Weber’s doctoral thesis was regarding Lili Boulanger and her song cycle,
“Clairiere dans le Ciel”. Lili Boulanger was the first woman (1913) to win the
Grand Prix de Rome composition contest, and was the sister of the famous theory
teacher, Nadia Boulanger.
Dr. Weber has served as a member of college faculties throughout the USA: Hollins
College in Virginia; The University of South Dakota in Vermillion; Southwestern
College in Georgetown, Texas; AMDA in New York City; Nassau Community College
in Garden City, New York; and Turtle Bay Music School in NYC (a community arts
school).
